First played Drums: I first played the drums at the age of seven

First recording: I recorded an EP with my brother Dave in 1985
First drum set: My first drum set was a three piece Gretsch that
my father bought for me.
Rick is an original and founding member
of the Hern Brothers. Rick started playing drums at the age of
seven years old. "My father Rick Hern Sr. showed me how to
play a drumbeat when I was seven years old from that I learned
other drum patterns by listening to the radio and practicing a
lot". Rick never had music lessons and also started singing
at seven years old. He started performing with his brother Dave
at school dances and for private parties when he was fourteen
years old. He remembers his brother Dave and him sitting in with
my fathers band RH Factor at various nightclubs in the Youngstown,
Ohio area. He started playing professionally with his brother
as the Hern Brothers in 1980. The Hern Brothers have been together
since their first performance at Reed Middle School in Hubbard,
Ohio in 1975. To date, Rick continues his efforts to writing,
percussion and recording in addition to live performances.
